Gluten Free at Gordon Ramsay – London House

When my parents come to visit I always think it is a good excuse to go out and try somewhere new in London.  I would classify everyone in my family as being foodies, and therefore whenever we get together our activities revolve around food and long weekend lunches.

Gordon Ramsay’s London House (website) has had some great deals on opentable.co.uk all summer so I booked this for last week when the parents were over.  The deal consisted of 3 courses and half a carafe of wine for £28, great value for money as a mina course at these restaurants can sometime cost around £20. Based in Battersea Square it isn’t the most convenient of restaurants to get to however well worth the trip.

We arrived at 9pm (which I think is late in the UK) however the restaurant was still packed with diners. As soon as we sat down the waiter asked if we had any dietary requirements and went through the menu. Next he brought out some delicious warm gluten free rolls.

I started of the meal with shaved English kohlrabi, Coolea Cheese salad. Having never tried this before (and not knowing what kohlrabi was) I thought I would try something new. The dish was a bit tasteless and I would have preferred the salmon starter instead.

For the main course I went for the braised lamb neck. I am usually not a fan of lamb as I sometimes think it tastes like a jumper (something which other people find a very strange comparison). However, I wanted to try it as it was at Gordon Ramsay’s and I was sure that his staff would be able to do this very well.

This was hand down the best lamb I have ever had tried in my life. The meat fell apart and was so delicious. It was one of these dishes that just didn’t want to finish. You could see my dad looking over at our plates with a bit of disappointed as he had gone for another dish.

After the rich lamb I went for the passion fruit posset. Even though it is a creamy dessert it had a fresh taste to it which finished off the meal perfectly.

The staff were very attentive and made sure that everything was gluten free and explained what we could have. Even though the service was a bit slow it didn’t matter as we were there to catch up and spend time together. If they still have the deal on opentable.co.uk then try and book it up for when you parents are in town or for a nice occasion.
